This news has now been confirmed following the news of a potential Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet event involving a Shiny Rayquaza. Where things differ, is in the fact the raid against a Shiny Rayquaza with the Dragon Tera typing, will only be a 5 Star raid, instead of a 7 Star raid. For the full details, we have them here:
Shiny Rayquaza Appears in a Tera Raid Battle Event!
Shiny Rayquaza will be appearing in a Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet Tera Raid Battle event from Friday, 20 December 2024, at 00:00 UTC to Sunday, 5 January 2025, at 23:59 UTC.
The Shiny Rayquaza appearing in this event has Dragon as its Tera Type and cannot normally be encountered during regular gameplay. Shiny Rayquaza will appear in 5-star Tera Raid Battles at Tera Raid crystals, so use this opportunity to take on Rayquaza and welcome it into your team of adventuring companions.
The Shiny Rayquaza appearing in this event can be caught only once per save data. As long as the event is running, you can still participate in Tera Raid Battles against this Rayquaza to obtain other rewards if you’ve already caught it.
Shiny Rayquaza may be featured in future events or become encounterable through other methods.

About Shiny Rayquaza:
Rayquaza is a Legendary Pokémon that debuted in the Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire games, which released on the Game Boy Advance in 2002 in Japan. According to the Pokédex in the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl games, it lives in the ozone layer far above the clouds and cannot be seen from the ground.
The Rayquaza appearing in this event is Shiny and has black coloration differentiating it from other Rayquaza. Shiny Rayquaza has made various appearances throughout the Pokémon franchise, such as in Pokémon Horizons: The Series, Pokémon Masters EX, and Pokémon UNITE.

During Shiny Rayquaza’s appearance, Pokémon that have black coloration when Shiny will be appearing in mass outbreaks. It seems that Pokémon appearing in these special mass outbreaks are more likely to be Shiny.

Which will you choose?
- SPRIGATITO – The Grass Cat Pokémon – Capricious and attention seeking, it may sulk if it sees its Trainer giving attention to a Pokémon other than itself.
- FUECOCO – The Fire Croc Pokémon – Fuecoco is laid-back and does things at its own pace. It loves to eat, and it will sprint toward any food it finds with a glint in its eye.
- QUAXLY – The Duckling Pokémon – This serious-mannered Pokémon will follow in its Trainer’s wake. It’s tidy, and it especially dislikes getting its head dirty.
