“We believe that the most important countermeasure against reselling is to produce enough
units to meet demand.”

During the Q&A session of the 84th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, Board Member and President and Representative Director, Shuntaro Furukawa was quizzed on Nintendo’s countermeasures to reselling the Nintendo Switch successor. The Nintendo President countered Nintendo are better prepared this time around for more units will be produced to ensure demand will be met.

This story did previously hit the headlines already thanks to earlier translations of what was said, but now that Nintendo has released an official translation, here are Furuwaka’s words in full:

Shuntaro Furukawa: We believe that the most important countermeasure against reselling is to produce enough
units to meet demand. This thinking has not changed since last year. In addition, we are taking into account circumstances in each region and considering what measures can be taken within the limits permitted by law.
Last year and the year before, we were unable to produce Nintendo Switch hardware in sufficient quantities due to the semiconductor shortage. That situation has now been resolved. As for the successor to Nintendo Switch, at present we do not think shortages of components will significantly affect production.
