Forever thankful.

Based in Poland, Forever Entertainment is a well-known developer who has worked on high-profile releases during the Nintendo Switch era. From their diligent work in bringing the likes of THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: REMAKE, FRONT MISSION 1ST: Remake and FRONT MISSION 2: Remake to the Nintendo Switch, in addition to a huge library of smaller titles, it has now been revealed that Forever Entertainment is behind Donkey Kong Country Returns HD.

The updated remaster seems like a straightforward release at the present moment, consisting of updated graphics with the inclusion of levels from the 3DS game, but it’s a welcome surprise nonetheless. With Nintendo and Forever Entertainment forming a partnership in 2021, when the two made a publishing agreement that Forever Entertainment would bring games to the Nintendo Switch, as long as Nintendo would give them “significant financial backing,” it’s nice to see that arrangement has now extended to Forever Entertainment now getting the chance to work on first-party titles.

When speaking about the deal in the past, Forever Entertainment provided the following:

The board of Forever Entertainment S.A. (FE) is informing of having signed a material agreement between FE and Nintendo Co. Ltd (Nintendo) of Japan.

On the basis of the agreement FE will receive a significant financial backing from Nintendo to fulfil a publishing agreement, the purpose of which is to release several titles from FE release schedule on Nintendo Switch.

The exact release date of each individual titles will be announced in separate reports.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD releases exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on January 16, 2025.

About Donkey Kong Country Returns HD:

Jump, roll, and stomp through Donkey Kong Island in this 2D platforming adventure – Help Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong recover their precious banana hoard from the villainous Tiki Tak Tribe in Donkey Kong Country Returns HD for Nintendo Switch! Stomp enemies, blast through barrels, and ride rockets and mine carts (and even Rambi the rhino) in 80 levels across nine worlds.

Play the game as it was first designed for Wii, or reduce the difficulty for extra hearts and other goodies to make your journey a little easier. This barrel-blasting adventure is visually enhanced in HD for Nintendo Switch and includes the extra levels from the Nintendo 3DS version!

Team up with a friend and take on the whole game as Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong – Pass a Joy-Con controller to a buddy and take on the Tiki Tak Tribe as DK and Diddy in two-player local play. Pelt foes with Diddy’s Peanut Popgun and hover using his Barrel Jet, and slam bad guys into submission with DK’s Ground Pound – or just Barrel Roll right through them. Work together to reclaim those bananas by the bunch!
