The beginning of the end has arrived now that Part 2: The Indigo Disk, is available now in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. With players now able to head off to the Unova region to explore the Blueberry Academy and its Terarium, the time has come to discover two brand-new and in this little guide, we’ll be helping you turn your Dipplin into Hydrapple:

How to Evolve Dipplin into Hydrapple | Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet

The first step to evolving an Dipplin, is to have an Dipplin, so if you have previously visited the Kitakami region, as part of the Teal Maskk DLC, you should already possess Dipplin in your posession. Otherwise, if you don’t have a Dipplin, nor an Applin, you will need to catch one either in Paldea or Kitakami in the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games, or head off to the Galar region with Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Once you have an Applin, make sure to evolve it by using a Syrupy Apple, which can only be obtained in Kitakami.

With a Dipplin in your possession, while the evolution process is relatively simple, as players need only to teach their Dipplin a specfic move before levelling it up on level, a bit of work is required to even get to that stage. Specifically, once you start playing through the DLC and you have made it to the Blueberry Academy, you will need to play through enough of the DLC’s story, to the point where you have joined the Blueberry League and are allowed to challenge the Elite Four. (Depending on your team and whether you dive straight into the game’s story, or do some extensive exploring first, you can reach this stage within the first 1 – 2 hours of gameplay.)

As the Elite Four can be beaten in any order, you will want to focus on challenging Dyayton first. With a team comprised of Dragon type Pokémon, he’s actually relatively easy to defeat in battle. If anything, the hardest part of his challenge, is having to do undertake his Elite Trial, where you will need to beat three trainers, using only Pokémon you have caught in the Terarium. (Spoilers: None of the trainers use Dragon type Pokémon, as their teams are mostly made up of Ice types.)

Once all is said and done and Drayton has been defeated, he will give you TM226 Dragon Cheer. Dragon Cheer is the move you will need to teach to Dipplin in order to make it evolve into Hydrapple, but remember, once Dipplin has learned Dragon Cheer, you will need to level it up one level. If in the event your Dipplin is already Level 100, you will need to use a Rare Candy.

Should you wish to evolve multiple Dipplin into Hydrapple, you will need to teach them Dragon Cheer as well and with the TM used up, you could always visit the TM Machine to make more, as long as you have the following required resources:

  • 1,500 LP (League Points)
  • Tatsugiri Scales x2
  • Lapras Teardrops x2
  • Applin Juice x1

*Syrupy Apple: A peculiar apple that can make a certain species of Pokémon evolve. It’s exceptionally syrupy.

As always, we hope you found this guide helpful.
