For anyone out there thinking, “Wait! Shulk and Rex aren’t playable in Xenoblade Chronicles 3,” once upon a time you would have been correct, but things are different now. With the expansion pass and the recent release of Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed, there are now another two reasons to beat the new story.
If you wanted more from Rex and Shulk and hoped they wouldn’t just be playable in Future Redeemed but in the main game as well, you’re in luck for history has repeated. Much like how players could unlock Shulk and Elma as blades by meeting certain requirements in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, provided you purchased the expansion pass for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, a similar thing has now occurred with Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Without further ado, here is our guide on how to unlock Shulk and Rex in Xenoblade Chronicles 3:
How to Unlock Shulk & Rex in Xenoblade Chronicles 3: (Expansion Pass is a Must!!!)
It all begins with Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed. If you have around 14-16 hours spare, you should be able to beat the game’s story relatively quickly. There is no New Game+ this time around, so if you do rush things as quickly as you can, you can go back afterwards to complete anything you finished.
Once you have beaten the game, however, you will be told a new Time Attack challenge has been added to the Land of Challenge in the main game. Now trust us, this is one challenge you will want to check out.
When you are ready, boot up the main game, load your save file and head to the Land of Challenge. Speak to the Nopon Archsage and make sure to select the Time Attack challenges. At the bottom of the list, you should find a battle called “The Two Saviours.” There is only one wave and Chain Attacks are not permitted, but you will have to battle two heroes of legend. (Can you guess who?)
It does not matter how you complete this challenge, so you don’t need to worry about time taken or what difficulty you select, just as long as you do beat it. Once the challenge is beaten, Shulk and Rex will be added to your party. Rex maintains his Master Driver class and Shulk keeps his Grand Marshal class, but it’s worth pointing out that neither of their classes can be learned by Noah and friends and nor do they appear in event scenes.
Once both characters have joined your time, you are free to use them as you wish and set off to explore Aionios once more.
