For the official press release, we have it here:
The Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution Series Begins!
Get a sneak peek at Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex as we learn about the newest Pokémon TCG series
During today’s Pokémon Presents, The Pokémon Company International unveiled the beginning of the upcoming Pokémon Trading Card Game: Mega Evolution Series. Mega Evolution Pokémon last appeared in the Pokémon TCG in the XY Series and the Sun & Moon Series, but these new Mega Evolution Pokémon are packing exciting and unique strengths all their own. Watch the video below for a first look at Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex.
Mega Evolution is known as “the Evolution that transcends Evolution” for Pokémon, and these new cards are rising to the occasion. In Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution, you’ll meet Mega Evolution Pokémon ex who have transcended their limits to become even more powerful. In exchange for higher HP and stronger attacks that surpass those of ordinary Pokémon ex, these Pokémon allow your opponent to take three Prize cards when they are Knocked Out—increasing the variation in Prize card trades and deepening the strategy of the Pokémon TCG.
Mega Lucario ex* is a Stage 1 Pokémon, but its 340 HP puts its durability on par with Stage 2 Pokémon ex that have appeared up until now. Its Aura Jab attack does 130 damage while allowing you to attach up to 3 Basic Energy cards from your discard pile to your Benched Pokémon in any way you like, and its Mega Brave attack can do a whopping 270 damage for just ! Mega Lucario ex can quickly support the development of other Pokémon or take the lead all on its own.
This era of the Pokémon TCG won’t just be about the raw strength of Mega Evolution Pokémon ex. You can also expect type-specific cards that will swing the momentum of battle depending on how you use them. Premium Power Pro* is a new Item card coming in the Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution Series, and it packs a serious punch. This Item card bears resemblance to the classic PlusPower and the more recent Power Tablet, boosting the attacks of your Fighting-type Pokémon by 30 damage. Using just one Premium Power Pro can be extremely impactful, but you can use two, three, or even four to do massive damage in a single attack. Finding the right timing is key though—how will you use Premium Power Pro?
Last but certainly not least is the enchanting Mega Gardevoir ex*. This Stage 2 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex boasts HP higher than any Pokémon ex revealed up until now, and its psychic power is just as impressive. Mega Gardevoir ex’s Overflowing Wishes attack lets you attach a Basic Energy card from your deck to each of your Benched Pokémon, immediately flooding the board with Energy. Follow that up with its Mega Symphonia attack—which does 50 damage for each Energy attached to all your Pokémon—and you’ll be doing massive damage.
Get mega hyped for a new era in the Pokémon TCG, Trainers!
