Performance issues aside, accompanied with the likes of The Indigo Disk and The Teal Mask, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, have earned themselves a place alongside other cherished main series titles. Our protagonist has gone from being a simple transfer student to the Paldean Champion who has then globe-trotted to Kitakami and the Blueberry Academy and gone one to earn many accolades and accomplishments as well.
I have simply grown too attached to them to want to see their story end without a possibly sequel and as it turns out, Unova could be the key to the perfect continuation, for existing lore and story at least. As brilliant as it would be to see the Gen 5 games remade and released on the Nintendo Switch, after what happened with ILCA and BDSP, what if we skipped Black, White, Black 2 and White 2 and skipped straight to Black 3 and White 3, only this time our playable protagonists are Kieran and Carmine?
First introduced to us in The Teal Mask, the siblings would make for the perfect pairing, especially in a modern Unova. Following the events of The Indigo Disk, both Kieran and Carmine could be looking for a fresh start and where better to go than to Unova itself? As students to a school all about battling, being Pokémon trainers is all they know and it’s a path they are happy to set out on.
To truly test themselves, the siblings decide to start afresh, building an entirely new team of Pokémon, starting with a trip to see a certain Pokémon professor and being able to choose their Unovan starter. Depending on who you choose as your protagonist, the other character will appear regularly throughout the game, taking on the role of your rival.
As neither Kitakami or Blueberry Academy feature gyms, Keiran and Carmine could have a genuine interest in trying to take on the Pokémon League and becoming the Champion. What’s more, as a sequel continuing the story, Terastalizing could have been brought over to Unova, especially now that Briar’s book and research has paid off to make her a mega star and the people of Unova are now engaging in Tera battles and Tera forms.
Plus, with a new region for the siblings to explore, Kieran can finally have the opportunity to catch a Legendary Pokémon of his own and since his previous ace was a Grass/Dragon, perhaps he can finally get his hands on Dragon-type Legendary instead. He’s already been denied twice. It’s time for him to succeed at something.
What’s more, certain characters from Black, White, Black 2, White 2, Scarlet and Violet could make an appearance such as the protagonist from the Paldea games, in a supporting role. Heck, the SV protagonist could even be the current Unovan Champion and this time, it’s Kieran’s or Carmine’s moment to come out on top.
Incidentally, Kieran and Carmine would still work as protagonists even if it was a prequel game. Only difference is, their journey could start in Kitakami as that’s their original home but they have had to go to Unova to get their starter Pokémon and begin their journey there anyway, before ultimately becoming students at Blueberry Academy.
And no, we wouldn’t have to settle for Black 3 and White 3 as possible game titles as something more akin to Pokémon Monotone and Pokémon Greyscale could be used instead. Of course they could go the Legends route and keep the siblings as protagonists anyway. Except, since players will get one of the three Unovan starters, new Kitamaki evolutions are included, which help to explain how Ursaluna got a Bloodmoon form.
