Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered

For the creepy month of October, what better way to spend Halloween then with some spooky and scary videogames? Luigi’s Mansion 3 releases on October 30th and is certainly a great way to get into the haunting spirit. However, we still have a little wait to go yet, so here is a list of games to spook and scare you during Scaretober. The games are in no kind of order and shouldn’t be treated as a top 10.

Resident Evil 0 – 6 & Revelations I – II

Lets get probably the most obvious out the way. Undead hordes and creepy mansions, the Resident Evil series certainly has a way to keep players on edge as they traverse through narrow passageways with monstrous being lying in wait to ambush you. With almost the whole series on Nintendo Switch, you can practically experience the entire legacy of Resident Evil anytime, anywhere.

Layers Of Fear: Legacy

This game from Bloober Team definitely have me a few jumps. Played in the first-person perspective, players must navigate their way around a Victorian townhouse that contorts and transforms into a grotesque version of itself. The protagonist’s mental stability begins to deteriorate as his obsession to finish his magnus opus drives him to insanity and is haunted by the restless spirit of his late wife.

Slender: The Arrival

The Slender Man makes his debut on the Nintendo Switch with a port of the prequel title. The player must investigate the disappearance of their friend whilst being stalked by the omninous and malevolent entity that is the Slender Man. As you get closer to finding your friend, you will be more actively hunted by The Slender Man’s proxys and other entities.

Midnight Evil

Play as a young boy who finds an old book and begins to read it at the dark of night in his bedroom. The boy learns that he is not alone as he has inadvertently released magical creatures known as Urklings from their confinement within the book. The player must now finish reading the book whilst keeping an ever vigilant eye on his surroundings as the children-eating Urklings close in to devour you.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered

Just because it’s Halloween, it doesn’t mean you have to be scared out of your mind all of the time. Saber Interactive have faithfully revived the original Xbox 360 title, which features the original cast of the films who have provided their likeness and voices for the official video game. Join the Ghostbusters crew as the rookie and journey through New York and the Ghost World in a new story written by Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis themselves. Fans of the movies will enjoy the humour and the many references to the films.

Friday The 13th: The Video Game – Ultimate Slasher Edition

Jason Voorhess comes to the Nintendo to kill counsellors all over again. In this 1 vs all multiplayer game. One player controls the murderous Jason Voorhess while everyone else plays as counsellors. As Jason, you must murder every one of the counsellors. For everyone else, you must find means to escape like searching for car batteries to start up the incapacitated car. Jason can be killed but he can resuscitate making him essentially invincible. The counsellors on the other hand, only have one life and have to rely on wits in order to survive. The game can be played Offline with bots and also online with friends. It is when playing online of course when the real fun begins.

    1. Ghostbusters Remastered does well to capture the essence of the original films. I have yet to play Resident Evil 4 but quite a few people have recommended it. I may pick it up while it’s on offer in the eShop.

  1. My favorite spooky switch games would have to be Resident Revelations, Layers of Fear and Ghostbusters but Luigi’s Mansion will rise up the ranks quick IMO

  2. I will be playing Little Nightmares on Halloween.
It is currently on sale on the eshop for those interested! 🙂

  3. This year I will be playing Little Nightmares for Halloween!
Currently on sale on the eshop for anyone interested 🙂

  4. My three first games on the Gamecube were Luigis Mansion, Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil 0. In hindsight I was a dark kid. But if I had to revisit one it would probably be Eternal Darkness (if only it were playable on Switch). Talking about switch, RE0 isnt as fondly remembered but its my first and favorite one.

  5. Obviously one halloween I’d pick for people to play is the original Luigi’s Mansion on GameCube. Just the perfect amount of spooky atmosphere, but without it being scary like the usual M-rated horror games. On Switch there’s not a whole lot of such games yet, but of course there’s Luigi’s Mansion 3 coming up and Ghostbusters Remastered as the article of course mentions. 😛

Actually, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle on Switch DOES have a spooky-themed world called Spooky Trails, but it’s the third one. Still, that’s a great game to play no matter the time of year, but it DOES have one of the best boss fights in said world you will ever experience bar none. 😉

Actually wait, can Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition on Switch count? It just came out and is by far my highest recommendation of the year and it does have a spooky atmosphere for quite a bit to start with. It’s not all pumpkins and ghosts, but it’s dripping with a dark and well, haunting atmosphere (I’m saying that world a lot lol). I still can’t believe this is a legit Microsoft game on a Nintendo system again (Minecraft was created before MS bought the IP).

Hey can we get Grabbed by the Ghoulies on Switch MS and Rare? We were supposed to get it on GameCube! 🙁

  6. It’s not the scariest of games, but I played Pinstripe on Switch last year and it suits the Halloween vibe perfectly. Reminded me a little bit of Tim Burton’s gothic horror style – well worth playing 🙂

  7. Ghostbusters looks ok, but I think it’ll get boring for me after some time… I’d love to play Resident Evil 7 on the Switch, but it’s still Japanese exclusive… (So I’ll buy it for PSVR as soon as I’m 18)

  8. It’s probably not “spooky” but Crypt of the Necrodancer is amazing. Otherwise Resident Evil!

  9. Just picked up Dead By Daylight for the switch! I have it for other platforms but I loved the idea of playing it on the go.

  10. My favorite scary game on the Switch? Doom! Yes, it’s more action horror, but I absolutely jumped out of my seat seeing barons for the first time.

And if we can throw out one that isn’t for the switch too, I actually might nominate Metroid Prime 2: Echoes! That game legit freaked me out anytime I stepped out into the void / out of the safe harbor zones.

  11. Dead Space is hands down my favorite scariest game I’ve ever played. I remember having nightmares after the first night playing and not sure if I was going to continue playing, I waited a few days and decided to play it. Glad I did I absolutely loved it.
