Among the many things that are making the rounds as news today, is a rumour concerning Bandai Namco being involved with Super Smash Bros. for Switch.

The rumour is all thanks to Tiago Sonobe, a former software engineer for Bandai Namco, who departed the company in August 2016, to work with Nintendo under the same position. In a tweet by Sonobe that is now deleted, Sonobe claims that he left Bandai before the production of Super Smash Bros. started and that he created the rendering engine that the game is running on. A tweet which by the way is a quoted tweet of a tweet by Nintendo America talking about the Smash Invitational at E3 this year. An image of the tweet and Sonobe’s profile can be seen below:

Since the tweet went live, Sonobe’s account has since been deleted altogether, and for what it’s worth, his LinkedIn account does also make not of his employment with both Nintendo and Bandai Namco, as well as those who worked for, prior to April 2014. What makes this all a bit ironic though, is the fact Bandai Namco were involved with Smash for the Wii U and 3DS games, and whether it’s a port or an entirely new instalment, it would be surprising if Bandai wasn’t involved, especially when they are also reported to be working on Metroid Prime 4 as well. At least with Smash being in the limelight next month, some answers will soon be ours!
