During Reboot Develop 2018, Yoot Saito, creator of such games like Seaman, SimTower, and Odama, talked about game design philosophy and revealed that during the DS era he was working on a Mario Motors game.

He explained how in a conversation with Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto, Saito expressed his interest in sculpting, which led him to the idea of Mario Motors, “a game where you create engines.” Saito did not reveal why the game did not see the light of day, and left it to the audience to guess the reason.

Saito also tackled the possibility of a Seaman sequel as well as SimTower.  For more on the story, head over to Destructoid.
