NES Classic Edition Production Has Been Discontinued (US)

Nintendo America have announced that they will be discontinuing the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition and that the final shipments will be going out to retailers throughout this month.

A Representative from Nintendo gave a statement to IGN which is as follows:

“Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.

The NES Classic Edition wasn’t intended to be an ongoing, long-term product. However, due to high demand, we did add extra shipments to our original plans. The company has no plans to produce more NES Classic systems for North America.

Along with the Discontinuation of the NES Classic Edition extends to the NES Classic Controller as well. As regards to third party accessories, Nintendo have said that the decision to continue production would be up to the individual manufacturer

Nintendo of America did not confirm whether The NES Classic or Famicom Mini will be discontinued worldwide, only that they have nothing to announce at this time regarding the future of the Nintendo Classic brand.
