After 20 years of being a cultural phenomenon, The Pokémon series has seen it’s fair share or spin-offs and Remakes. New titles are regularly released but older titles or “Earlier Generations” are frequently revisited. Fans will be glad to know that Game Freak are still interested in bringing back their older titles to latest gen consoles.
In an Interview with IGN, Series Producer Junichi Masuda told them:
“I think the remakes, like Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, is still an approach we’re interested in. With the Virtual Console releases of the original games, specifically there had never been a way to bring those Pokémon over to the latest generation. It had always been that you couldn’t get those Pokémon out.”
Masuda gave thanks to the services such as Pokémon Bank & Poké Transporter that the original games that spurred the franchise (Red, Green, Blue & Yellow) were able to release on the Virtual Console on the Nintendo 3DS. He did go on to say that there are no current plans to bring Pokémon Gold/Silver Version to the Nintendo eShop.
“With the 20th anniversary, it was the right timing to release the original games. I think that we really want to give people the experience of bringing these Pokemon from the original Game Boy and seeing what they look like in Pokemon Sun and Moon. That is something that I want people to enjoy.”
Lastly, IGN asked how the Pokémon Bank will import the first generation Pokémon into Pokémon Sun & Moon as there are stats in the newer titles that weren’t included in the original game.
“I wonder how they’re going to change. I hope that’s something people will look forward to seeing how it works.”
