Breath of the Wild Demo Will be Playable at Gamescom 2016, but There’s a Catch

Revealed on the nintendo.de website, the Breath of the Wild demo will be playable at Gamescom next month in Cologne, Germany, but only 50 lucky gamers will get the chance to play it.

By now you may have already read this story elsewhere, but from a few of the articles on it I’ve seen, they were less than 200/250 words and didn’t convey all of the details from the official post by nintendo.de, so with my very best German translating skills at work, this is the full lowdown: (All of the details and the general gist of what was written)

Wanted! Testers for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Breath of the Wild will be the highlight of the stage show and there will be live demonstrations and insight into the open-air game that is set for dual release in 2017. But unlike at E3, not everyone will get the chance to experience the upcoming Zelda game, but 50 gamers will get the chance to take on Hyrule and play the demo, thanks to the “How Hyrule are you?” Competition, a competition we have the details for:

 *How you can Participate:

-You will need to send in a picture that you feel expresses your Legend of Zelda enthusiasm. This could be a drawing of your favourite Zelda character, a photo of you in your very best cosplay or even just a photo of your Zelda collection.

The email address to send your picture/photo to is: zelda@nintendo.de and you will have until the 8^th of August to do so. Also in the email, you will want supply your mailing address, your email address, your first and last name and give the date/dates in which you will be at Gamescom.

A jury of experts will then asses the pictures sent in and will email the winners, who will have just three days to reply to the email, or lose out on the chance to play Breath of the Wild.

*Things to consider prior to Participating:

-You will need to be a resident of Germany, Austria, or Switzerland.

-If you are under 18, you will need the consent of your legal guardian.

-The “demo seats” are not transferable to another person, so if you’re entering for someone else, it’s not going to work out, unless they enter and win.

-You will already need a valid ticket for Gamescom 2016 in Cologne.

*Things you Should Know:

–If you are late, you will lose your time slot and that would be it. You will not be playing Breath of the Wild at Gamescom 2016.

–The photos that are sent in, a select number will be displayed at Nintendo’s Booth, so by submitting your picture/photo in the first place, you grant them your permission to showcase it.

-The Breath of the Wild demo at Gamescom 2016 will be playable on four different days, details of which you can see here:

12 time slots on Thursday (August 18^th 2016)

12 time slots on Friday (August 19^th 2016)

14 time slots on Saturday (August 20^th 2016)

12 time slots on Sunday (August 21^st 2016)

Also during the event, for those who have tickets for Gamescom, Nintendo will be running four tournaments and the winner of each tournament will also get the chance to play the demo. The tournaments are as follows:

Pokémon Tournament (August 18^th 2016)

Splatoon (August 19^th 2016)

Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U (August 20^th 2016)

Mario Kart 8 (August 21^st 2016)

(Just to be clear, the actual post I translated all of the information from, doesn’t actually say anything about these Tournaments. All information on Tournaments comes from an article by Zelda Informer, which credits a NeoGaf thread as one of its source’s. In short, there will most likely be these Tournaments at the event, but there could just as easily be another prize in store for the winners, as opposed to them also being able to play the demo.)
