From Mario to Link, to Inklings to Pokémon, as always, we’re here to keep you updated on all of the latest news. Below you can catch all of our choice picks of noteworthy news this week. These are the Miketendo64 News Highlights of the week!
Super Mario Maker (UPDATE & AN EXPLANATION):
A new update has come to Super Mario Maker, version 1.42 and if you’re looking to still have access to online play without taking advantage of the free update, think again. The update is mandatory, but it only takes up 354MB of free space, fixes a couple of existing issues and takes no time at all to download, so you may as well get it anyway.
But that’s not all because instead of getting another new mystery mushroom costume, we had Nintendo speak out once more regarding course deletion and the grounds for courses being deleted, which are as follows:
- Courses with low plays and very few stars
- Courses which specifically request stars from players
- Courses that contain bugs
- Inappropriate content, such as profanity and etc.

Pokémon Distribution (HOOPA RETURNS TO EUROPE):
Whilst the entire globe is able to go off and get their very own Jirachi as part of the Monthly Mythical Pokémon distribution, those in Europe who missed out during the last event back in 2014, can now get their hands on Hoopa. Until the 30th of April, Hoopa is available thanks to a very special code: “HOOPA2016” but the code is limited, so be sure to use it as soon as you can, otherwise you risk missing out on Hoopa once again. Just like the Monthly Mythical, Hoopa is obtainable on both X&Y and ORAS.

Minecraft: Wii U Edition (COMING TO RETAILERS NEAR YOU):
With Minecraft finally having arrived to the Wii U back in the December of last year and a recent update, there is some more Minecraft news for Nintendo gamers to chow down on and it is this, a physical version of the Wii U game is on the way! Announced by the official Minecraft twitter account came the reveal for a physical edition, but no release dates or any other details have been given as of yet, but it won’t be long before they are.

Pokémon GO (NEW FIELD TESTING LOCATIONS ANNOUNCED):
With things going well with Japan, the Pokémon Company and Niantic Labs are shifting their gazes to Australia and New Zealand, where this month the latest field testing is expected to begin. Nintendo Stores (COMING TO EUROPE):
Nintendo’s online store is about to get a lot bigger since Nintendo plan to extend it, giving Europe the keys to the kingdom. The UK already has a Nintendo online store of its own, but now so will France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium and Holland.

Weekly Review (MY NINTENDO: THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS PICROSS):
With Picross games rising in popularity and the latest one to be Zelda related, it’s no surprise that our latest review is the My Nintendo exclusive, My Nintendo: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Picross. Is it high action? No. Is there a truly engaging story that stirs our emotions? No, but there are puzzles and puzzles are a huge part of the Zelda series so at least that’s something. So if you’re in the process of trying to decide on whether or not this game is worth the go, be sure to check out our review with the link below:

With all the recent developments this year had to other, we were on a bit of a break this week, so while our new content did around the same, our older stuff found themselves in the spotlight, so with that in mind, instead of a small description before the links, here are our vintage Top 3 articles.
Taking 3rd place is our very small piece: The Legend of Stamp Collecting: Twilight Princess HD, a miniscule feature on the stamps of Zelda.
In second 2nd place was our news piece: Get Ready for the GO – Pokémon GO. We penned this piece back when we first heard about Pokémon GO and saw the trailer for it. To this date, it is our second most popular article on our site.
Now as for our Top Spot piece for this week, again it is Pokémon GO related and our most popular article ever, it is of course our news article: Pokémon GO in Action – The SXSW Footage is Here! After months of nothing we had finally got some footage of Pokémon GO in action, which showed a trainer having to use a Master Ball to catch an Ivysaur. Nintendo ask fans to shut down their Legend Of Zelda NES 3D Browser Game:
This week saw the immediate rise and fall of a fan project of the original Legend Of Zelda NES remade into 3D, that was available to play on your web browser. The hell hounds that call themselves Nintendo’s Lawyers filed a cease and desist action against the developers Scott Lininger and Mike Magee of Zelda30tribute as the content of the game breaches copyright infringement. It is unsurprising really as Nintendo have always been extremely protective of their IP’s and can get a little sensitive when developers encroach on their ‘territory.’ Which in a way can be considered odd as it was Nintendo themselves that said gaming is for everyone and that they preach the ideals of ‘family’ but I guess Nintendo and its fans are two different families rather than a single unit. Here is what Scott Lininger and Mike Magee had to say about the matter on their website

“Nintendo asked us to remove this site for copyright infringement. I guess Zelda30Tribute was a little too pixel perfect 🙂 We’re sad about that, but we get it. We started this project because we love Nintendo and the joy they have given us throughout the years. From the start of development, we knew this result could potentially happen. Nintendo has every right to protect their IP. No complaints from us, we had a blast working on this tribute and made some friends along the way.
Big thanks to the half million folks who played our game! We learned a bunch and wrote some code that others might learn from, too. We plan to post the project to Github soon, once we’ve had a chance to remove Nintendo-owned assets. 🙂

Zelda U (RUMOURS TAKING FLIGHT):
This week’s big, Big News is naturally the latest rumours regarding the ever elusive Zelda U. So little is actually known about the game, but that hasn’t stopped Zelda theorists coming out with a new theory every single day, but now we have something that although is yet to be proved, is certainly more than likely.
The rumours, which pertain to Zelda U being released on both the Wii U and the NX, voice acting for almost all characters except Link and there will also be the option to choose between a male or female character, but in no way does it state a male or female Link.
In no way at all do we have to accept these as solid truth, but while we wait for Nintendo to confirm or deny these rumours, all of this does comes from Emily Rodgers, whose source passed on the details to her. This is also the same source who told her about Paper Mario coming to the Wii U, which as we all know, was of course proven true, so take from this what you will.

As great as it would be to get some more details regarding Zelda U and some sort of response to this by Nintendo, the fact is we most likely won’t. They have perfected the silent treatment and with E3 now only a couple of months away, I highly doubt they’ll be saying anything until then, which would then make it an E3 to watch. But should I be wrong and more Zelda U details do come sooner, we’ll be sure to share it here like we always do!
