Hi Guys & Gals, Mike Scorpio Here! I have decided to put together my very own top 10 favorite Wii U games for you to mosey over. It covers almost every genre available from Horror, Platformers, Party & Adventure. There are a few games on this list that you probably wouldn’t think would have made it to anyone’s top 40 let alone a top 10. However, I have chosen to add them due to my own personal experience and playthrough of each game and have deemed them worthy of acknowledgement of being in my top 10 list.

Some games you will think meh! and others you will not be surprised at except maybe you would place them higher or lower due to your personal preferences. I shall just add that this is a Top 10 of Physically released games, and therefore digital releases are not included. So, without further ado, it is time for my Top 10.

10. ZombiU

Yes, that’s right, ZombiU is in my top 10. It may not boast the best graphics and its gameplay can be downright shoddy at times but let’s look at what makes this game has to offer before shoving it to one side. You are a survivor in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse, scavenging and trying to make your way to safety through the streets of London, LONDON! (need I say more?). As if the city couldn’t get any grayer or grittier.

Plus, you get to club Zombie Punk Rockers & Fuzzby wearing Welsh Guards with a cricket bat. It doesn’t get more British than that. The game also makes good use of the gamepad by making it your KEY to survival and allows you to scan for items, displays your map, radar pings enemies and provides means to access weapons and items easily. So yes, ZombiU makes it to number 10 of my Favorite Wii U Games.

9. Splatoon

Now you are probably thinking why Splatoon would be so low (or so high depending on your perspective) on this list? By and by I almost didn’t include it. don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy the game and own a copy but I find it lacks any real motivation for me to Want to play it. That said it is still a fun shoot ’em up where you play kids that can turn into squids or is it squids that turn into kids?

Anyway, the main bulk of the game is its online mode and winning depends on how much surface area has been turfed or ‘inked’ rather than how many kills you rack up in a single session. It is bright, colorful and fun to play on occasion but I feel it lacks a better local multiplayer with 4 player split screen to maintain that good ol’ local deathmatch spirit and 2 player online play would have been nice too.

8. Mario Party 10

I can already sense you cussing me for this one but I would just like to say that ‘I like Mario Party 10.’ Most people or even the vast majority of the series’ fans do not like the “Ride Together” mechanic but the Amiibo Party mode still maintains the “classic coins for stars” style of gameplay, providing you have enough compatible Amiibo to play it, of course.

It has 3 main game modes to play including the new ‘Bowser Party’ where one player can choose to play Bowser and has to diminish the lives and hopes of the other players as they try to get to the Power Star at the end of the board with plenty of tricks and traps that all aid to Bowser’s favor. The game also has over 70 minigames and other extras like Minigame tournament, free play, unlockables and more.

t is a really great game to play with others and the tables can turn at any moment so even when on the final round and it looks like you have the win in the bag, it is still anyone’s game and the next thing you know, whoever was in fourth place has just overtaken you in the blink of an eye. Great, great fun and should always be on the cards for game night with family & friends.

7. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

This game opened up my eyes to the world of Assassin’s Creed for the first time. I was a bit skeptical at first, I didn’t quite understand what was going on. One moment I am commandeering a ship on the Caribbean Sea in the 18th century and the next, I am waking up in a room full of computers in modern day Northern America. After learning that the main ‘unknown’ character is researching and reliving the memories of another via their DNA using a machine called the Animus which, basically, the Matrix crossed with the History Channel.

I pushed the science of the game to one side and allowed myself to succumb to the world of Piracy and Treasure. Adventuring across the West Indies to exotic islands and finding myself caught up in an age long war between the Assassins & Templars. The Story was gripping with plenty of excitement mixed with sorrow and guilt. The locations were to die for and the fighting mechanics of the game were downright awesome. Edward Kenway is the Mutt’s Nuts of the Assassin’s Creed as far as I’m concerned.

6. Yoshi’s Woolly World

Looking at it, you would think it is a cutesy adventure game aimed at young children but do not be fooled as there is a lot more to it than its woolly cosmetic textures would have you believe. aesthetically it does indeed look like a game suited at young children but it trying to find it’s abundant collectibles to unlock a new skin texture for Yoshi or trying to find all the sunflowers to unlocks new levels, will have gaming veterans do a double take.

There is a lot more puzzle solving and technique required for this game than there is in Super Mario 3D world and all wrapped up in a big bundle of colorful wool that will have you scratching your head and pounding the sofa before giving up entirely. However, it is hard to stay made at Yoshi for too long, so you will soon pick up the gamepad or controller and give it another go.

Two player co-op is also available which makes trying to complete certain objectives that little bit easier, scratch that, A Whole Lot Easier. Plus, it is amiibo compatible and each amiibo will unlock a new skin texture for Yoshi, be it Mario, Link, Bowser, Ganondorf or even Samus! Unfortunately, there is no Pikachu Yoshi :'(

Are we in the Top 5 already? Wow! Well you probably know what games have made it into the Top 10 as their have pretty much been the Top 5 of most other peoples Top 10’s but anyway, here are mine and my reasons for it.

5. Super Mario 3D World (Spoiler Alert!)

Where do I begin with Super Mario 3D World, probably the best 3D Mario game since Super Mario 64 (Sorry Galaxy 1 & 2). It has up to 4 player co-op which makes the game even more fun and sometimes frustrating, but mostly fun depending on the skill level of your co-players. Each character has different abilities that are beneficial in certain areas, Luigi can Jump higher, Toad can run faster, Peach can hover, Rosalina can spin attack & Mario? Well he’s Mario, he doesn’t need special abilities.

Initially, the inclusion of the Cat Suit Power up had me a little misleaded but I went with it (I can’t be the only one who thought of Peach & Rosalina in Cat suits intriguing 😉 ). The game is a great big barrel of fun with lots of little Easter Eggs including the 8-Bit Link secret puzzle. and each level and world up the ante to add more challenge to the game. Champion Road for example, you better be ready for it!

4. The Legend Of Zelda: The Windwaker HD

Most people never seem to add this to a top 10 Wii U games because it is a remake. Well Hoo-hah! I say, if it is on the console then it has every right to appear in a top 10. I didn’t buy into its cartoony appeal at first but my brother insisted that I played it so I did and oh, did it suck me in. The story is heartwarming and encouraging. The gameplay was great, the Figurine Island had me traversing the big blue to get as many characters as I can with my pictograph camera.

There were plenty of dungeons and secrets and items to use. It is by far one of the best Zelda games on the Wii U to date, mainly because it is the Only Zelda game on the Wii U to date, Hyrule Warriors was great fun but it isn’t Zelda U. I am sure Zelda U will knock spots of The Windwaker HD, but it would need to be finished and released first. Until then The Windwaker is the holder of the No. 4 spot of this Top 10 of my Favorite Wii U games.

3. Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Well of course SMASH was gonna be on here. It is one of the best games on this console. It has a multitude of characters, stages, game modes, trophies to collect, the list is endless. Almost any character of any caliber can be found in this fantastic game. You can have Mario square off against Pac Man, Sonic, & Duck Hunt Duo in a Retro Style Smash. The Legend of Zelda Series can face off against those from Fire Emblem in an all-out 8-player Smash.

Also, the ability to train Amiibo into unstoppable fighting forces or customizing your own character with alternate special moves and color change. To top it off, you can play as your own Mii, choosing from 3 fighting styles, choice of attire and special moves. The possibilities of this game is endless, I would have ranked this game higher but the lack of the Sub Space Emissary (from Smash Bros Brawl) or something similar is what kept this game from even higher on this list.

2. Mario Kart 8

It just had to be in my top 10. This game has provided my girlfriend and I with countless hours of fun, frustration, tears and joy. with over 32 courses (and another 16 more via DLC), plenty of variety with characters and costumes for the Mii Racer, depending on what amiibo you use to unlock said costume. The battle mode, however, has fallen so flat in this game that water would be trying to pour itself back into the glass as it has nowhere to go.

It is a real shame that the battle mode consists of only 4 full tracks and even then, it is hopeless trying to find anyone to hit. The Wii version had it spot on and like I said before it is a shame because they should’ve imported that version into it. With that in mind, the Two player co-op for Grand Prix is a godsend because if you and a friend have any skill at all, you should easily be able to secure 3-star gold trophies every time, unless your co-driver stabs you in the back at last minute that is, this is Mario Kart after all. The online Two-player is also good fun!

1. Super Mario Maker

Here we are at my number one favorite game for Wii U; Super Mario Maker. Though it has only been out since September this year, it has so much potential and replayability, it is untrue. There are over 3 million courses made to date which yes, while the majority can be utter tripe, troll levels or insta-death stages. There are some that are so creative, unique, enjoyable and some real masterpieces as well.

Trying to find said levels is quite a challenge in itself of course, unless you have the course ID, you are left searching through the recommendations after beaten certain courses or glancing through the featured section of Course World but Nintendo will so be rectifying that with a Web portal that you can access from your phone to find levels that appeal to you kind of gaming style.

The true art of this game comes from not just playing levels, that’s just a high plus, but actually creating your OWN levels. with a choice of 4 textures from Super Mario Bros NES to Super Mario Bros Wii U, six level backdrops including overground, underground, water, castle ghost house & air ship and plenty of tools at your disposal to build levels to your design, from towering hordes of enemies, a firing squad of cannons, peakaboo baddies hiding in question blocks.

If you are really creative you can even make musical levels by setting the note blocks at different intervals for different pitches. In the Super Mario Bros NES Texture, you have the added extra of using Amiibo costume that you can either use Amiibo to unlock or by playing through the various difficulties of the 100 Mario Challenge.  The possibilities are virtually endless and with a nearly limitless supply of courses to play, how could it not be Number One in my Top 10 Favourite Wii U Games.
